Love, Aisyah

January 20, 2019

Wow, it has been nearly a year since I last blogged. I was spending so much time creating content for my Instagram, I embarrassingly forgot about my blog. But happy new year! May this be a better year for all us.

The main reason I'm writing this is that I want to share about a new local brand. I was introduced to it through my colleague. So just about 2 months ago, I met up with the founder for lunch, Maggie or you can call her Aisyah too as she's a Muslim convert about slightly more than a decade ago.

For the 2 hours we sat down, I can tell you, I have never met anyone who has so much passion in her, you can see it shine through her eyes as she speaks about it. She shared a lot from how she met her husband, how she gravitated towards Islam even before she converted and how she recently left her job because she felt like she was made to create something for the community.

As a working woman myself, I can relate to her struggles - from the mummy guilt to the exhaustion of juggling being a mother and working full-time. In a way, I felt like I was listening to myself and it comforted me, honestly. I know I'm not alone experiencing this anxiety and everything that came along with a good pay check.

So after she left her job, armed with her networking experience from her years in the working in the fashion industry, she decided to give designing her own line a try. She wanted to create something that is suitable for every woman, especially Muslim women.

We all know that sadly, even up till today, sometimes it's hard to get to find clothes that are modest. It has gotten better since a few years back but I believe we can do more.

She was so surprised when samples after samples came a few weeks after she made the decision to try it out. She was even more amazed when a friend, Bloem, an Artisan Florist who invited her to collaborate to do a fashion show. She immediately took the chance to soft launch her collection. The crowd was impressed and that pushed her do more.

She has officially launched her website and her pieces are available for purchase now! You can see she has so many amazing designs ranging from modern kebayas to career wear to designs inspired by fashion from 1920s!

When we met, she brought a few samples and obviously I had my eye on some of her designs. Just look at these maxi dresses!! Perfect for casual wear and Raya! I can't wait to get my hands on them.

I have some good news to share for those who wants to meet Aisyah and get a touch and feel of her collection.

They will be at LalooLalang this coming weekend, 25-27 January @ Wisma Geylang Serai. Hope to see you there! And of course don't forget to visit their website and follow their Instagram and Facebook page too.
